Refit As An Alternative To ConstructionOnly at first glance do the two options appear to be diametrically opposed. The common denominator lies in the Owner's desire for a yacht that corresponds to his personal requirements and vision. Both a new construction and a refit are a possibility when it comes to making this wish come true. Just which alternative to choose depends on a number of factors and cannot simply be put down to financial considerations.
In some cases, an owner has fallen in love with a particular type or a particular yacht, the production of which, however, goes back twenty years or more. A new construction or reconstruction is financially out of all proportion, or the yacht would have to be largely constructed from scratch and adapted to today’s production methods. In such cases, a refit is the only feasible alternative, even if the extent of work may sometimes be akin to that of a new construction.
