Very often it is not adequate at all that the complex matter of managing a multi-million dollar yacht is entirely left to a Captain, who very often has worked himself up from smaller yachts and lacks proper management experience.

It may be a pity but experience shows that only very few people are diplomatic but still get their way when dealing with authorities and suppliers, are consequent with but fatherly to their crew, can negotiate on an equal basis with trained marketing people of a yard, or suppliers, have deep insight in economics and accounting (as they should be considering the amounts of money involved), are excellent seamen as well as equipped with sound technical knowledge, can act as entertainers, event organizers, etc. etc. - just to name a few abilities and qualities a Captain is being asked to have (if he is supposed to manage and run a yacht all by himself). We know that a Captain, who thinks professionally and has the interest of his Owner in mind, wishes support and accepts support - just as we make use of experts whenever we think it best for the Owner.

It is the task of a management company to know all the "strings", and to hold them firmly in their hands. Managers must remain informed about a yacht at all times in order to be able to react immediately, based upon their experience and knowledge. Managers also will cooperate very closely with the Captain, who remains the key-authority on board.
It is our strength that, due to our long-standing experience, we have worldwide contacts in all operational sectors - whether technical, legal or any other matters important for a smooth daily operation are concerned. These contacts as well as our experience are used to the best advantage of our Client, wherever and whenever needed.

Thus the Management Team at OCEAN Independence acts as a hotline for the Owner, the charterer and the master, providing assistance for matters such as spare parts (emergency too), dockage, port formalities and passage planning.
We can also take care of reservations for commercial harbours, marinas, dry-docks, transit through canals - either directly or in collaboration with some of the most professional international maritime agents - and act as the pivot for your master during charter cruises, providing him with customized "trouble-shooting" and/or organizational solutions throughout the duration of the cruise.

• Standard operational procedures are observed, in conjunction with the master, who is entrusted to put them into practice

• We assist the master regarding itineraries, weather conditions and customs formalities

• We carry out periodical inspection of the yacht to check on-board procedures and the operational regime of the crew

• We set up periodical meetings with the owner, or his/her representatives, to maximize the yacht's performance and optimize the crew's efficiency
