A Labour of Love: Reviving a Maritime Icon
Shirish’s commitment to restoring KALIZMA has been a labour of love, a meticulous undertaking that has spanned years. The refit, carried out with an unwavering attention to detail, has sought to preserve the yacht’s authentic character while enhancing her comfort and functionality. “We wanted to honour her past,” Shirish explains, “but also to build on it. Every decision, every detail, has been carefully considered.”
The refit and revival has updated the interiors to make them much lighter than they were before, making it feel bigger and more refined. Currently, the top deck is being reconfigured in Malta, with the Jacuzzi and seating area being replaced by a bar and 14-person lounge. These design choices, as Shirish emphasises, are driven by a desire to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for families, reflecting his own experiences as a yacht Owner and charterer for many years. He also said that the majority of the design choices were made as a result of his family-time on board, meaning they are very well thought out and lived in, and therefore very appealing to other families and modern-day charterers.
The extensive use of brass, a defining feature of KALIZMA’s original design, has been painstakingly restored, a testament to the craftsmanship of a bygone era. “The brass is a challenge to maintain,” Shirish admits, “but it’s an essential part of her charm. It’s a reminder of her heritage.”
