Ocean Independence looks back on a successful relationship with the renowned Dutch shipyard, Heesen.
Ocean Independence is well versed in working alongside a number of quality northern European yacht builders, with one of the most prolific being the renowned Heesen shipyard, who are responsible for the creation of some of the best superyachts for sale on the market today. Whether in sales and purchase, or the new build of Heesen yachts, the relationship between the shipyard and Ocean Independence has been a successful one for some time, totalling an impressive 20 transactions since 2005 – five new construction yacht sales and 11 brokerage yachts (of which four sold twice). It is clear to see that both brands show an impressive synergy, priding themselves in offering high quality, innovative and tailored services, as well as delivering in a prompt and professional manner.
As we looked back on some of the highlights of the ongoing relationship between Ocean Independence and Heesen, choosing just five in a long list of outstanding yachts proved no easy task. However, each of the yachts and transactions below stood out for their own unique reasons.
In 2016, the sale of 40m superyacht LITTLE FISH (now LADY LUCY) was a fast and seamless transaction, with the Owner renaming the yacht HAPPY T. In time, she underwent an extensive refit, including an innovative retrofitted elevator – an unusual addition for a yacht of this size. This work was completed to such an impressive standard that we saw her second sale once again complete very quickly in 2018.
As the 13th sistership in the restyled 47m class designed by Frank Laupman at Omega Architects, BOOK ENDS is stylish and elegant. Boasting an optimised interior layout, sprawling sun deck with spa pool and enormous windows to allow the outside in, this Heesen superyacht is sophisticated and impressive, realising the vision of her discerning Owner while showing how a spec-built model became a perfect match. BOOK ENDS is now one of several yachts available for sale with Ocean Independence.
The sale of 47m motor yacht SECRET in 2017 was a challenging experience for the Ocean Independence sales broker, who recalls the friendly Russian Client purchasing their very first yacht. Following numerous yacht inspections, the opportunity to visit SECRET arose, and the Client was so impressed by the Heesen quality that the deal was sealed. However, the sale of the yacht became a somewhat lengthy procedure due to acquiring proof of her VAT paid status in Cyprus. The experience was a learning curve for all involved regarding specific VAT programs in Cyprus, but once concluded, the yacht’s new Owner was delighted.
Completing a full circle with Ocean Independence, 47m Heesen yacht LADY PETRA was sold in 2017, having originally been built in 2012 for the founder of the shipyard. Renamed COMO, this lightweight superyacht offers great speed as well as long-range cruising capability. In fact, she has been such a popular vessel that we subsequently sold her in 2018 to her current Owner who named her ODYSSEA, and she is now available for charter with Ocean Independence.
Semi custom-built in 2000, 31m Heesen ZABAVA benefitted from innovative underway fin stabilisers that enable the yacht to reach impressive maximum speeds of 23 knots. It was no surprise that this yacht, symbolising one of the best in her size range with outstanding quality, sold effortlessly in 2018. Re-named POKROV II, her flybridge layout has been popular with her Owner and family, offering the opportunity to enjoy some great outdoor spaces.
The expertise and experience that Ocean Independence have with Heesen yachts is unrivalled, and the relationship between company and shipyard continues in its strength.
