Virtual Yacht Viewings: No Travel Required

Yacht viewings are adapting to the current global situation with various virtual tour technologies enabling private viewings of yachts for sale from the comfort of your own home.

Throughout the height of the coronavirus pandemic, yachting seemed like a distant dream for many. But yacht viewings were certainly not impossible with various “virtual tour” technologies enabling private viewings of existing yachts for sale anywhere in the world from the comfort of your own home. From live walk-throughs using tools such as WhatsApp, Facetime or Zoom, to a selection of 3D virtual tours, our brokerage team, across four continents and nine countries, remain committed to the business of buying a yacht

“Ocean Independence moved very quickly to adapt with these new methods of communication and engagement”, explains Managing Partner, Nick Dean. “In these unprecedented times, it has been so encouraging to see how businesses, such as ours, are innovating and adding new levels of customer service. Our virtual tours have been well received by our clients, even generating an agreed offer on a yacht, subject to sea trials, survey and contract. Following much discussion between the Client and broker, they narrowed down a selection to the desired make, model and age. The virtual tour allowed the client to appreciate the interior and exterior styling, to his taste.”

Nick anticipates that the heightened awareness and increased use of such technologies are likely to have a positive impact on reducing the amount of air travel that forms part of the global yachting buying process. “With climate-awareness being so high on the agenda, it’s feasible that a more considered, technology-led approach could be implemented going forward.”

Here are the latest updates on yachting viewing from our global hubs:

Europe, Jeremy Comport

“With more positive news coming from the European countries and many of the shipyards, refit or new build facilities starting to go back to work, confidence is building again with clients. We’re finding that clients – themselves benefiting from more family time – are keen to discuss their requirements in more detail and consider a wider range of options for their first-time purchase or ‘next boat’ discussion. Our collection of 3D virtual tours has certainly inspired a fresh approach to matching yachts with clients’ lifestyle aspirations.”

United States, Chris Collins

“Our real-time video tours on board provide the same level of detail and insight as if a client was attending an in-person viewing – allowing us to continue to bring buyers and sellers together during this challenging time. There are a few exceptions, as not all owners are permitting virtual viewings and we do need to respect their wishes to maintain a sterile environment. In these cases, we are supplying pre-recorded videos wherever we can.”

Hong Kong, Miles Clark

“As one of the only major cities to avoid a full lockdown, we have already started to resume real-time virtual tours for the majority of yachts that we have here in Hong Kong.”
