A Record Fleet and a Growing Team
As 2024 draws to a close, our yacht management division celebrates an impressive milestone: a fleet approaching 50 yachts under management, a new record for the company. Jason explains, “This growth underscores the level of trust clients place in us to care for their yachts. It’s an incredible responsibility and one we take very seriously.”
The fleet now includes vessels spanning nearly seven decades, from the oldest yacht, built in 1956, to the newest, delivered just this year. According to Jason, this diversity highlights the division’s flexible approach to yacht management. “We’re managing yachts that have been with us for over 14 years. Whether it’s a modern superyacht or a classic, each yacht receives the same level of care and personal service”, he says.
To meet the needs of this expanding fleet, we have added new talent across key locations, both in established yachting hubs and emerging markets, facilitating the total crew employed by the division to reach 290 professionals. “This year alone, we opened several new positions to bolster our localised support network”, shares Jason. “Being close to our clients—both geographically and in understanding their unique needs—continues to be a cornerstone of our approach.”

Specialised Roles to Meet New Challenges
Growth, however, requires more than just numbers; it requires structure. In 2024, we undertook an internal reorganisation to streamline operations and enhance our ability to meet the increasing demands of a growing client base. “We introduced specialised roles this year to bring more focused expertise to each vessel, covering everything from technical management to crew support”, explains Jason. “The goal is simple: ensure each yacht under our care benefits from the highest standard of management.”
Among this year’s innovations, the division introduced a cloud-based ‘Electronic Crew Noticeboard’, which Gilbert describes as “a game-changer for fleet communications”. He adds, “instead of relying on cluttered physical boards in the crew mess, this digital noticeboard allows us to update crews in real-time, and provide effortless ship-to-shore communication. It’s yacht-specific but also fleet-wide, making it much easier for captains and crew to stay connected and informed.”
Landmark Projects and Refits
Reflecting our managers commitment to versatility, 2024 also saw the successful supervision of over 30 refits, including a full refurbishment of the first SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) superyacht. Spanning 36 months and completed at the yacht’s original shipyard, Abeking & Rassmusen, the Ocean Independence Yacht Management team played a key role in such a major refit of NURJA.
Delivered in 2008, this groundbreaking vessel underwent extensive updates, including an extended sundeck for enhanced outdoor living, additional bridge deck windows, and a sleek new grey hull finish. Known for its unparalleled stability in rough seas, NURJA exemplifies innovative engineering and design. As Jason puts it, “This project highlights the team’s capability to manage complex, specialised refits while delivering exceptional results tailored to unique vessels and client needs.” He adds, “Every refit is a unique challenge, but projects like this demonstrate the team’s dedication to preserving and enhancing the value of our client’s assets.”
Beyond refits, the team remains actively involved in new builds. Last year, the Ocean Independence Yacht Management Team were delighted to see the launch of 45m Hakvoort, MILELE, a project we were proudly engaged with, in partnership with a passionate Owner, which has subsequently gone on to win a Neptune in the Semi-Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts, 40m and above category at the Boat International World Superyacht Awards.

Currently, three new build supervisions are underway, including the groundbreaking solar/hybrid 43m Sunreef sailing catamaran, featuring the world’s largest single-shot hull infusion in the world. “Innovation is a priority for us”, says Gilbert. “Our focus is on remaining at the forefront of the latest technology available, allowing us to provide the most informed guidance to our clients, and this project plays an essential role in broadening our team’s expertise in sustainable technologies—advancements we anticipate will be integral to the future of yachting.”
Closing a Chapter, But Not the Book
2024 also saw the departure of Daniel Küpfer as Director of Yacht Management at Ocean Independence. After 25 years at the helm, Daniel’s leadership shaped the division into what it is today—an industry leader known for its commitment to excellence and Client satisfaction.
“Daniel’s influence is woven into every part of Ocean Independence Yacht Management”, reflects Jason. “We’re grateful for his guidance, and while he’ll no longer be with us daily, this is not a farewell. Daniel will continue to collaborate with us as a consultant, ensuring that his experience and insight remain a part of the division’s ongoing evolution; ensuring continuity and a smooth transition as the division continues to evolve.”
The Road Ahead: Technology and Growth in 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, the Ocean Independence Yacht Management team have set their sights on further innovation and expansion. A key focus will be the implementation of new technology to simplify and enhance all aspects of yacht management. “We’re investing in tools that allow us to streamline communication with owners and their teams to improve maintenance tracking”, Jason shares. “Technology is a powerful tool, and we want to use it to deliver the best possible experience for our clients.”
As the fleet continues to grow, so too will the team, with plans to add more specialists in new and existing locations. “Our growth strategy is always measured”, says Jason. “We want to expand while maintaining the high standards that define Ocean Independence’s Yacht Management services. It’s about bringing in quality professionals that expand the reach and capacity of the division, so we continue to provide easy access to high-end customer solutions.”
