Articles REGINA D’ITALIA: Where Design Becomes Experience

Years in the making and cloaked in secrecy throughout its build, REGINA D’ITALIA is the result of an uncompromising creative vision.

Built by Codecasa and measuring 65 metres, this steel and aluminium motor yacht accommodates up to 11 guests across 6 staterooms. REGINA D’ITALIA is available for both sale and charter, offering flexibility for those seeking either long-term ownership or an exceptional private escape. The interior was developed by Milan-based studio m2atelier in close collaboration with Stefano Gabbana, reflecting a profound attention to detail, technical mastery and a theme as bold as it is sophisticated.

An Interior Anchored In Imagination

Before construction began, a concept was set: the underworld. Not dark and ominous, but elegant, powerful and full of depth. This theme resonates across every level of REGINA D’ITALIA. From Brazilian marble typically reserved for high jewellery to intricate ceiling treatments and bespoke materials, each element was selected to immerse guests in a submerged world of refinement.

The yacht’s layout follows a progressive gradient in tone, beginning with lighter blues and descending into deeper hues as you move up through the decks. Complementing this is a backdrop of aged teak flooring and polished teak panelling, adding warmth and balance to the contemporary lines. The result is a design that flows with intent, capturing movement and energy while remaining grounded in luxury.

This meticulous approach is visible at every turn. Materials were chosen not only for their aesthetic value but also for their rarity and complexity. The Brazilian marble alone involved three of the world’s leading specialists. Crocodile-embossed textiles, mirrored ceilings, and custom wall panels all contribute to the yacht’s distinct identity.

Design Without Compromise

One of the defining elements of REGINA D’ITALIA’s design is its refusal to conform to superyacht norms. Instead of simply following established trends, Gabbana and m2atelier created something uniquely expressive. The master cabin, for example, was originally two separate guest cabins. The team made a decisive choice to break down that division, resulting in an expansive, fluid living space that serves as a bold centrepiece.

Social areas were a major focus from the outset. From the main saloon to the upper deck lounge, the intention was to cultivate a conversational atmosphere. It’s a yacht designed not just for observation, but for engagement. Spaces invite you in, encouraging interaction, leisure and reflection.

Each of the cabins tells a different story. This is most clearly expressed in the sculptural hand gestures used as bathroom taps and staircase features. These are not whimsical accents, but considered expressions of Italian culture. Every gesture is different, each tied to the character of the cabin it resides in. In fact, the design team were so inspired by this element they created an entire book of iconic Italian hand gestures.

From Concept To Completion

For m2atelier and Gabbana, executing such an ambitious concept required perseverance. Many design features were initially met with skepticism, including the domed ceiling above the gym. However, the dome was critical as it allowed the installation of a trampoline, giving the Owner the ability to exercise in full range of motion. The gym also includes modular links on walls and ceilings to accommodate varied equipment and routines.

This fusion of form and function is central to the project’s ethos. Even the smallest details were reconsidered. The bar stools featuring intricate fish, the handcrafted wall panels, each one unique, and the deliberate ageing of the teak floors all reflect the time and thought invested in the building of this yacht. These were not aesthetic afterthoughts but fundamental parts of a larger vision.

A yacht interior often risks becoming overly minimal or unnecessarily lavish, however, REGINA D’ITALIA finds a perfect balance in between. m2atelier characterise the style as a tension between minimalism and maximalism, a clean, contemporary structure enriched by detail, texture and narrative.

A Personal Statement

REGINA D’ITALIA was never intended to follow convention. From the start, the design was guided by a very clear and personal concept. m2atelier and Stefano Gabbana worked closely throughout, and the project remained under wraps during its entire development. This deliberate approach allowed them to realise their vision without compromise or outside influence.

Rather than seeking to impress through excess, the focus was on creating something considered, coherent and totally unique. Every material, finish and spatial decision was made to support the original idea. The result is a yacht that reflects strong design thinking and consistency across all decks.

The project was not without its challenges. Several technical hurdles had to be overcome to bring certain features to life. However, what stands out is how well everything fits together. The interior feels cohesive, with each area contributing to an overall sense of clarity and purpose.

Design That Stands Apart

At 65m, REGINA D’ITALIA delivers the volume expected of a yacht in this category. However, the layout and flow make the most of every square metre. Spaces connect seamlessly, with materials, colours and lighting creating a consistent look and feel throughout.

The interior doesn’t rely on trends or gimmicks. Instead, it’s a carefully planned environment designed for long-term enjoyment. Each space has a purpose, and the design encourages movement and ease of use. The attention to detail means that the more time you spend on board, the more you notice.

REGINA D’ITALIA demonstrates what’s possible when design is given time to evolve. With a clear vision and the right expertise behind it, the result is a yacht that is both functional and distinctive.
