OI: Can you describe your initial impression of the Q43 project at FLIBS 2022?
I had seen SOLEMATES during the Monaco Yacht Show a few months prior, and it ticked all the boxes these Clients were looking for, and then some. This led us to fly over to Mulder, where SOLEMATES was finishing up some warranty work before crossing to Florida under her own power.
OI: What aspects of the Mulder ThirtySix series do you believe appeal most to clients?
The five-stateroom layout with the Master on the main deck was a big draw. The large windows throughout the yacht and Mulder’s renowned quality construction also stood out.
OI: How did you guide the Clients through the decision-making process during their yard visit?
The great part of a series build is that it is a tried-and-tested platform. This allows the clients to personalise their fabrics, colours, and other personal items for their intended usage. John Vickers of Vickers Studio was also on hand to help guide the Client’s requests.
OI: Can you share any memorable moments or challenges encountered during the project?
One memorable moment was during a meeting when we asked what they would name the yacht. They mentioned “Q43” and shared the personal story behind it. We all agreed that it was the perfect name.
Challenges on the other hand are an expected part of the build process. Some large, some small, but that said, having a good team around you helps resolve these efficiently.
OI: What feedback have you received from the new Owners about their experience with Q43 so far?
They have just wrapped up their inaugural trip in Norwegen, and the feedback was, ‘How will we top this?’ This feedback is a testament to the yacht and the crew under the command of Craig Bell, who had also overseen the build.
OI: What features of the Q43 stand out to you the most, and why?
I am an outside person so I really enjoy the upper deck, which allows for lounging under cover or open air with the hot tub, and an informal dining space also undercover. It is a very user-friendly area with access from both inside and the aft deck.
OI: How do you see the market for yachts like the Mulder ThirtySix evolving in the coming years?
With larger dock access becoming challenging in places like Florida, die Bahamasund die Mittelmeer, as well as the shallow draft constraints in the Bahamas, I feel this size range will continue to gain momentum, especially in the USA.
