Norway: Forests, Fjords & Fishing

Norway is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Host to an inordinate number of natural wonders, it also boasts fabulous cities, captivating history and welcoming local people. The Oslo Fjord is a prime destination to explore; a vast bay stretching over 100km in the south-eastern corner of Norway. The fascinating city of Oslo is truly a Scandinavian metropolis mixed with a cosmopolitan feel. Enjoy the gorgeous architecture and vibrant centre packed with luxurious shopping opportunities, relaxed cafés and trendy boutiques. The fjord itself is dotted with a number of islands, each more intriguing than the next, having their own identity and distinctive history. This is an ideal spot to fish and also for water sports fun; especially kayaking and canoeing. Further north lies the city of Bergen - a serene beauty, this city is probably one of the most traditional in Norway. Discover unspoiled nature; ancient forests rise from deep fjords and sweeping meadows seem to merge with the horizon.

Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. As one of the world’s northernmost populated areas, it's known for its craggy, isolated terrain of glaciers and frozen tundra sheltering polar bears, Svalbard reindeer and Arctic foxes. The Northern Lights are visible during winter, and summer brings the “midnight sun” – sunlight 24 hours a day. Explore the Bay of Isfjorden, the second longest fjord in Svalbard, surrounded by palacial mountains and quaint villages plus unique opportunities to see local flora and fauna.

Fascinating Moffen Island is made entirely from sand and gravel, underpinned by no bedrock foundation at all. Home to a multitude of walrus, no one is allowed on this protected island, however viewing from a distance in good daylight gives a perfect perspective of the many species found there. Generally it is the male walrus who head to shore, fully-grown they are a wonderfully blubbery 1 ton of mammal; spot mothers and babies bobbing together near the shoreline.
