The Balearics: Wildlife & Nightlife
Sun-blushed, celebrity-endorsed and packing scenic punch, the Balearics are among Europe's most elite charter holiday destinations. The mixture of cultural influences from many different civilizations is reflected in the architecture and the attitude of the islands’ inhabitants.
Mallorca is the most famous Balearic Island, and the largest. Duck down the side streets to unearth excellent family jewellers, bespoke sunglasses and incredible ice cream. In Palma de Mallorca, the cathedral is a huge draw and the city's narrow, cobbled streets are probably more famed for their vibrant nightlife, with bars, restaurants and nightclubs packed until dawn.
Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera each have their own distinct identity, and boast equally appealing beaches, rugged mountains and lively ports.
Ibiza is home to some of the finest clubs and most famous DJs in the world. Find the beautiful people anchoring in the quiet bays by day and partying hard by night. Café del Mar is the place to be at sunset.
Escape the party on Formentera – the Balearic Islands’ quiet little sibling. The water here is crystal clear, the beaches deserted and the bays are yours alone.
On Menorca, ensure you leave the beaches and explore the Ciutadella, where you can wander among traditional houses and Gothic cathedrals somehow arrested in time. Don’t miss the remote island of Cabrera and the Dragonera nature reserve.
