Yachts Support Hurricane Dorian Relief

11 Sep 2019

With the mass destruction inflicted by Hurricane Dorian on the northern Bahamas becoming increasingly clear, the aftermath is thankfully demonstrating the very best in human nature.

YachtAid Global and partners have coordinated a massive yachting effort, supplying immediate disaster relief, recovery and assistance to those islands devastated by the hurricane, and some yachts from the Ocean Independence fleet have joined the cause.

242' Delta superyacht LAUREL joined Operation Topaz to deliver over 30 tons of badly needed supplies to local communities and worked tirelessly alongside animal rescue centres to transport and re-home dogs from affected areas. 182' Damen support vessel AXIS has repeatedly delivered containers laden with essential construction materials, medical provisions and food to those in need. Allen Exploration, the owners of AXIS and Walker's Cay also opened a dedicated Go Fund Me site to implement a relief effort dedicated to neighbouring Little Grand Cay.

The good news is that, even though Grand Bahama and the Abacos remain closed, the rest of the beautiful Bahamas is still very much open for business.  According to the Bahamas Tourist Board, the best way to help is by visiting and providing a much needed boost in tourism, which makes up 70% of the country's GDP. The delights of Bimini, the Exumas, Andros and Eleuthera together with hundreds more stunning islands are just waiting to be discovered.
