Rachid, born and raised in the Netherlands, knew from an early age he wanted to work on some of the largest ocean-going vessels in the world.
He started his maritime career with P&O Nedlloyd - a renowned shipping company back in its day.
After finishing his apprenticeship with this multinational company, Rachid graduated as Dual Maritime Officer—a unique naval college education program originating from the Netherlands providing sea-going officers the qualification of operating a deep-sea vessel as both Deck & Engine Officer.
While rising through the ranks, the highest qualifications Rachid achieved were Chief Officer Unlimited and Chief Engineer Unlimited simultaneously.
However, wanting to see some more interesting parts of the world, Rachid decided to move over from cargo ships to cruise liners, where he worked for several years at Holland America Line. Until he discovered the wonderful world of yachting.
Since 2010, Rachid has worked on various sized yachts and sailed all over the world to remote destinations. Having worked in the capacity of Chief Engineer on multiple operational yachts over the past 12 years, and also participated in refit and shipyard projects, he possesses a wealth of knowledge that is being utilised daily to support the technical requirements of the Ocean Independence fleet.
In his spare time, Rachid is an avid cyclist with his Dutch roots coming to fruition and Mallorca being a great cycling destination.
