Every year 100,000 people and over 1,200 boats flock to Fort Lauderdale for the largest on-water boat show in the world.
Justifiably self-styled ‘the yachting capital of the world’, Florida’s Fort Lauderdale has been the site of one of the industry’s largest and busiest superyacht shows for 60 years. The 2019 edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) will run from 30 October to 3 November, spread across seven locations and almost three million square feet, including the iconic Bahia Mar Yachting Centre.
Every year, the event attracts the great and the good of the superyacht industry to its docks, with over 1,000 exhibitors showcasing everything from the world’s newest launches and timeless classics to the latest concepts and yachting technology. Historically, over 100,000 attend the show every year and this year, visitors will be treated to around 1,200 boats across the show’s locations, with a significant section of those measuring over 30m.
Despite its size, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show boasts a uniquely relaxed atmosphere thanks to a combination of its beach-side location and laid-back American charm. As well as the variety of charter yachts and the impressive fleet for sale, visitors can expect toys and tenders, boating accessories, luxury cars, marine art and even jewellery. In fact, over USD 4 billion will be on display at the show. There will be scuba and freediving seminars and an array of food and drink venues, including the show’s famous floating cocktail lounges, where you can grab a cold drink and watch the show go by from the shade. Have a bite to eat and recharge while enjoying live music and even livelier crowds.
For those looking for an exclusive FLIBS experience, the Windward VIP Club Experience, located at the Hall of Fame Marina, provides its members with a private dining area, a premium open bar, gourmet food, access to the water taxi and meet-and-greet opportunities. Set back from the din of the show, this climate-controlled escape is a private platform for networking, business meetings or quiet break for lunch to plan your next viewings.
And after the show? Florida makes a wonderful superyacht destination. From secluded bays and scuba diving in the Florida Keys to searching for alligators in the famous Everglades or soaking in the Art Deco architecture and Latin vibes of party town Miami, it is well worth spending some time making the most of Florida’s vibrant and varied coastline.
The Ocean Independence team will be in attendance with a stand and number of exceptional yachts from their fleet on display at the Hilton Marina Dock. We will also have a dedicated charter booth located at the VIP entrance at the Hall of Fame Marina.
