Design and Technology
When discerning Yachtsmen come ashore, they want to do so in style. Welcome to the best designed Yacht Clubs in the world
Designed by Spanish agency El Equipo Creativo, OneOcean Club in Marina Port Vell opened in January 2015, presenting an alluring ambience of a classic Mediterranean pavilion. Drawing inspiration from elegant J Class yachts, the designers used reflective materials on the ceiling to mimic the surface of the water in the port, interspersed by gold tubular ‘masts’ against sun-faded wood. Huge architectural white lattice structures provide shade across the terraces, while climbing and hanging plants soften the verticality of the spaces and merge the boundary between outside and in.
Porto Montenegro Yacht Club
Built on a submarine base in the UNESCO-listed Boka Bay, the lido at Porto Montenegro was refurbished and transformed into the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club by Tino Zervudachi of Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi in Paris. The 64m infinity pool, originally converted from an old underwater submarine transport elevator, was expanded and the new De Gustibus seafood restaurant added. This re-incarnation of the yacht club is unequivocally state-of-the-art. The superlative waterfront Members Lounge and private dining space overlooking the pool are best seen at dusk when the square steel structure above the pool is flood-lit to offset the colours of the sunset. Yacht Club De Monaco
Designed by Norman Foster, Monaco’s imposing new yacht club opened in 2015 with 54,000 square feet of interior space across five floors connected by twin aft stairs and a striking central spiral staircase. With glass and steel setting the tone, plus stylish Fendi Casa furnishings, the interior evokes the elegance of a luxury liner. A vast, retractable canvas roof and two 100 foot masts open out on to the huge terraces. With 26 moorings, an extensive nautical library, glamorous guest rooms and a spectacular pool, this is a prime destination for any visitors while the yachting crowd converge at the Riva Bar.
