More about FREYA

FREYA is an exceptional expedition yacht, offering an ideal platform for exploring the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. Originally constructed as a lighthouse-building vessel, she has been lovingly refitted to provide a blend of authentic character and serious polar capability. Operated by Secret Atlas, FREYA is designed for those who seek genuine adventure without compromise.

FREYA is a compact expedition yacht with the spirit and endurance of a much larger vessel. Her ice-strengthened hull and proven track record in polar waters ensure that she can navigate the remote and often challenging terrain of the Arctic with confidence and safety. As a result, FREYA is a rare example of a small expedition yacht that delivers on both authenticity and capability.

In 2025, FREYA will be one of only two vessels sailing to Scoresbysund – the world’s largest fjord system. This vast and rarely visited region of East Greenland offers a true wilderness experience, filled with dramatic glaciers, towering cliffs, and immense, icy landscapes. A charter aboard FREYA to Scoresbysund is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with the chance to learn about Inuit communities and culture, witness glacier falls in the late season, and learn about the rich history of polar exploration in the North.

Designed for low-impact travel and meaningful connection to the natural world, FREYA accommodates 12 guests, allowing for a highly personalised and flexible itinerary. Guests can expect close-up wildlife encounters, including polar bear sightings, as well as orca safaris and unforgettable Northern Lights experiences. Whether photographing calving glaciers, skiing remote slopes, or quietly observing Arctic foxes and seabirds, every moment on board FREYA offers a new perspective on this remote region.

Her stabilised hull and strong diesel engine provide both comfort and reliability, even in remote regions where infrastructure is limited, ensuring she is fully prepared for the changing conditions of the polar environment. Her smaller size enables access to areas off-limits to larger ships, opening up unique anchorages and wildlife encounters that define an authentic polar voyage.

FREYA’s layout is functional and welcoming, with luxurious cabins and communal areas that reflect her expedition roots while offering cosy Nordic charm. Her open bridge policy allows guests to spend time with the Captain and crew, gaining deeper insight into navigation, Arctic conditions, and the operational side of expedition travel.

With a strong focus on sustainable exploration and respectful engagement with the environment, wildlife and local cultures, FREYA offers a charter experience like no other. For those seeking to immerse themselves in the wild beauty of the Arctic, discover Inuit culture, and travel where few others go, FREYA is the ideal vessel, combining extreme capability with comfort, character, and a true spirit of adventure.
